cocobunga? What the heck is that? Let me get this out of the way sooner rather than later.
As I previously mentioned, my oldest son is getting married this July. He and his fiance recently asked me what I would like to be called someday when they decide to have children. Granny...never. Grandmom...not diggin it. Nanny...that was my grandmother. Maw-Maw...umm...out of the question, that is my mother-in-law.
What I really wanted to be called was 'GiGi'. Cute...check. Fun...check. "I want to go to GiGi's house"...check. Always thought that was the best grandmom name ever. Problem? Yep. Ugh. Here we go again.
I happened to know that my future daughter-in-law has a brother who has a very adorable little girl. Guess what? That very adorable little girl calls my son's future mother-in-law 'GiGi'. Hmmmm...
Now I figured that 'GiGi #2' would work about as well as blowing a hard-boiled egg through a pinhole. People say that works. Doubtful. Onward and upward to 'Plan B'. Thinking, thinking...I'm exhausted. Is it bedtime yet?
Got it! My oldest daughter called my mother 'Bunga' when she was old enough to speak, like 6 or 7. Okay, jk. She was about 1 or 2 years old (she's now 21). After a little thought, I told them 'Bunga' would work. Kitschy...love kitschy! My son and his future lovely bride seemed a bit horrified at that thought...geez. Okay, okay. I'll keep thinking. Who knew something so simple would be so difficult? Yikes!
How about 'CoCoBunga'? Add a little class to the whole 'Bunga' thing. "I want to go to CoCoBunga's house" sounds so very endearing to me. After all, Coco Chanel was a pioneering French fashion designer whose modernist philosophy, menswear-inspired fashions, and pursuit of expensive simplicity made her an important figure in 20th-century fashion. She was the founder of the famous fashion brand Chanel. Her extraordinary influence on fashion was such that she was the only person in the field to be named on Time 100: The Most Important People of the Century. Yes, I copied that from Wikipedia...so shoot me.
Fact: Coco's real first name just so happened to be Gabrielle...which just so happens to be the name of my youngest daughter...so I'm just going to take some liberties here...thank you.
My little grandsons and/or granddaughters can call me 'CoCoBunga' or just 'CoCo' for short if that is all they can say. Works for me. Worked for the future parents. Life is good.
