It's true I'm married to a southern guy from North Carolina so some people may think this post would be about the popular legume used in a variety of southern dishes. After all, we do eat black eyed peas every New Year's Day since it's thought to bring luck and prosperity throughout the year. So, if you thought I was writing about a Hoppin' John recipe then let me share this with you before I move on to the real topic at hand... http://www.huliq.com/8326/90068/black-eyed-peas-recipes-hoppin-john-new-years-tradition.
So, let's get it started. Anyone who really knows me, looked at the title above and knew that this post would be Fergie-related. True that my friends. This past December 12th, tickets went on sale for the Black Eyed Peas concert at the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia. I sat at my computer on the request line and purchased four tickets. Okay, enough with the italicized song titles for now. Moving on...
On March 3rd, Gary, Gabrielle, Blaise and I headed downtown. I thought I would be one of a handful of hip and cool 40 somethings with a slew of teenagers. Oh, no, no, no. Amazingly, there I was with many mid-lifers and my husband fit in nicely with the other 50 somethings (sorry Gary...it slipped out). Although we had our two teens with us, there were many awoc's (adults without children). Umm...I think I just made that acronym up.
I was oddly torn. On one hand, I was pleasantly surprised to see others my age appreciated the music of the Black Eyed Peas. On the other hand...wait, I thought I was cool and hip for my age. Of course, if I was really cool and hip, wouldn't I use adolonics like rad and bombin?
The Black Eyed Peas were extraordinary. Gary (who went begrudgingly) even said it was one of the best shows he had ever seen and he's been to a plethora of concerts from CSNY to the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Fergie's ever changing costumes, the stage stunts, and the boom boom pow of the music inspired the cell phones to light up the venue throughout the night. Remember lighters? So passe on so many levels. The performance far exceeded my expectations and so I thought I'd spread the word. If you have a chance to go...buy those peas tickets and take your little ham hock to see them! I gotta feeling you'd be singing tonight's gonna be a good night.
As my son said, "there's nothin' bad about Fergie". Agreed. Will.i.am wasn't so bad himself girls. So, pass some more black eyed peas this way please because they truly are fergalicious.
